COLUMBUS — Farmers, forestry managers, scientists, environmentalists, industry and government leaders will take the next collaborative step in creating renewable energy policy.
The collaboration will take place at the Ohio 25x’25 Alliance forum held at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus July 7.
Billed as “Ohio Agriculture: Solutions from the Land,” the forum will feature briefings on agriculture and forestry’s role in a reduced carbon economy, the future for no-till farming and biofuel/renewable energy solutions.
Joining the discussions will be a delegation of German farmers sponsored by the German Embassy, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Ecologic Institute and the National 25x’25 Alliance.
Purpose
The national alliance shares and develops public policy supporting the goal that by 2025, America’s farms, forests and ranches will provide 25 percent of the total energy consumed in the United States, while continuing to produce safe, abundant and affordable food, feed and fiber.
“The alliance is becoming a rallying cry for renewable energy and a goal for America,” said national 25x’25 Steering Committee member Bill Richards.
“Discussion on key issues with other farm and forestry leaders on an international level is a start; as is active participation with scientific, environmental, business, labor and consumer groups in shaping energy policy.”
The program
Speakers include National 25x’25 Alliance Project Coordinator Ernie Shea, and Rattan Lal, Randall Reeder and Matt Roberts with Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
