LEWISVILLE, Ohio – A workshop on owning and operating a portable sawmill will be held July 14 at Bruce Tree Farm located in Monroe County.
The workshop will start at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Bruce Tree Farm is located approximately 10 miles north of Lewisville in Monroe County.
“Within the last 15 years there has been a great deal of interest in portable sawmills,” said Edward Smith, district specialist, Natural Resources with Ohio State University Extension.
It is now estimated there are over 80 firms manufacturing portable sawmills. Each firm usually manufactures more than one model.
Reasons for buying.
There are many reasons why people buy portable sawmills. Some people buy these mills with the expectation of developing a full-time business; others are interested in these mills for their own personal supply of lumber.
Since there are so many manufactures and models of mills to choose from, it is no wonder why people have a hard time deciding on which one is right for them.
Workshop topics.
This workshop will include an overview of features to consider when purchasing a mill, demonstration of a mill and maintenance considerations.
The registration fee is $10 per person and includes the cost of lunch. Preregistration is requested.
