Mid Atlantic Genetics holds Shorthorn sale

HOOKSTOWN, Pa. – Mid Atlantic Genetic Productions held a preferred stock Shorthorn Sale Sept. 9 at McElhaney Stock Farm at Hookstown.

Four bred calves sold for $5,125, averaging $1,331; 33 heifer calf lots sold for $72,975, averaging $2,211; 12 bred females sold for $22,650, averaging $1,888; 48 breeding lots sold for $100,950, averaging $2,103; and 12 steer calves sold for $15,635, averaging $1,303.

Mid Atlantic Genetic Productions includes McElhaney Stock Farm in Hookstown; Hively’s Highland Farm in New Waterford, Ohio; High Hope Cattle Co. in Union Bridge, Md.; and Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown, Pa.

The top selling lot was MSF Neon Lady 101, a roan January heifer calf sired by MSF Equity 43 out of Rolyn Neon Lady 5C. She sold for $13,000 and sold to KDL Shorthorns/Kirk Lutz of Oakdale, Pa.

ASF Duchess Queen 727 bred to SBR 20/20 Vision, a roan ’97 daughter of AKF Monopoly ET and out of MSF Duchess 310, a granddaughter of MSF Equity 43’s dam MSF Duchess Queen 8572 (a Pacesetter dam), sold for $5,250 to Willow Spying Farm/John Wildeson family of Union Bridge, Md. and Matlock Stock Farm/Lloyd Minster of Saskatchewan, Canada.

Volume buyer for the day was Cartee Shorthorns of Franklin Furnace, Ohio.
