November temperatures could predict cold, snowy winter

MILLPORT, Ohio – The average temperature for November ran below average, according to Edwin R. Copeland, U.S. weather observer, reporting from his post in southern Columbiana County.

This year is one degree below normal. The high temperature for the month was 71 degrees recorded Nov. 2 and 3. The low temperature was 4 degrees recorded Nov. 23.

Rainfall was more than an inch below normal though there were 12 days of rain. This is the 50th anniversary of a record snowfall. The snow started falling the Friday after Thanksgiving and snowed continually for 48 hours. When it stopped, there were 24 inches of snow. It currently holds the record for one snowfall.

The 108-year averages for November are: 40.3 degrees, 2.57 inches of rain, 2.3 inches of snowfall and 30 percent sunshine.

Averages for November 2000 are: 38.2 degrees, 1.34 inches of rain, 1 inch of snowfall and 30 percent sunshine.
