Ohio dairy judging teams win big

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The dairy judging team from Ohio State University’s Agricultural Technical Institute won its division at the 2015 All-American Dairy Judging Contest Sept. 14 in Harrisburg. Also from Ohio, the West Holmes FFA team topped the FFA division.

New York 4-H and the University of Minnesota won each of their respective contests.

Contestants judged 10 classes of cattle and then gave oral reasons on four or five of the classes depending on their division.

Junior collegiate division

OSU-ATI’s team of Tanner Topp, Kaleb Kliner, Hannah Dye and Josh Paulin won the junior collegiate division. They are coached by Don Hange. Second place went to Kaskaskia College; third, SUNY Cobleskill.

West Holmes FFA dairy judging team

Jaycie Staring, SUNY Cobleskill, was the top individual scorer, followed by Hannah Dye, OSU-ATI, in second, and ATI’s Tanner Topp in third. ATI’s Kaleb Kliner placed fifth individually.

Collegiate division

The University of Minnesota, with team members Nathan Donnay, Dane Thompson, Eric Houdek and Vincent Migliazzo, won the collegiate division for the second consecutive year. They are coached by Les Hansen. Migliazzo was the high-scoring individual.

Placing second was a team from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Third place went to Cornell University.

FFA division

The Ohio FFA team from West Holmes High School won the overall FFA Division. Team members Jason Jenkins, Regina Miller, Becca Vales and William Hughes are coached by Jamie Chenevey. Kentucky FFA placed second.

Regina Miller was the third-place individual.

4-H division

New York 4-H, composed of Allison Herrick, Joshua Chisholm, Mary Sweeney and Bryce Windecker, won the 4-H Division. They are coached by Douglas Waterman.

A team from Wisconsin 4-H placed second; Minnesota 4-H, third; and Pennsylvania, fourth.
