Ohio Pork Congress honors standouts

COLUMBUS — The 2012 Ohio Pork Congress held in Columbus Feb. 7-8 honored Ohio’s pork industry standouts.

The event showcased the latest trends and technologies in Ohio’s pork industry. In addition to trade show attractions, pork producers and industry representatives also attended the awards presentation

Service Award

The Ohio Pork Producers Council’s (OPPC) Industry Service Award was presented to Dale Ricker of Ottawa, Ohio. Ricker received this award for his service and dedication to Ohio’s pork industry through his involvement in various activities educating Ohio’s pork producers, as well as the youth.

Manager of the Year

Alan Evers received the Ohio Pork Producers Council’s Manager of the Year Award. He is employed by Cooper Farms of Fort Recovery, Ohio.

The Manager of the Year award recognizes swine managers for an outstanding production program and for leadership in swine and community organizations.

Promoter award

The OPPC Pork Promoter of the Year Award recognizes an individual, family, organization or company who excels in promoting the pork industry on a local, regional or state level.

This year the award was given to the Preble County Pork Festival for its dedication to promote pork in their local community.

Excellence award

The Pork Industry Excellence Award is presented to an individual or family that has given unselfishly to the pork industry to help ensure its success. This year’s award was presented to Randy Brown of Nevada, Ohio.
