COLUMBUS — The 27th Ohio Spring Dairy Expo was held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio, on March 28-30.
A total of 758 animals, representing all seven breeds of dairy cattle, were on the grounds for the shows and sales, an increase of more than 100 head over last year. Exhibitors traveled from across Ohio and nine other states to present their entries to judges Tim Abbott of Fairfield, Vt., and Steve Hendress, of Walcott, Ind.
This year’s event featured seven shows in which 602 open class and junior animals competed.

Showmanship. Continuing again this year was the All-Breed Youth Showmanship Competition. The American Dairy Association Mideast who provided a cash prize to each of the 130 contestants, regardless of placing.
Winners included: 9- to 10-year-olds (22 participants): Tim Gunkleman, Medina; 10-11 (19 participants): Logan Schlauch, Big Prairie; 12-13 (24 participants): Keaton Topp, Botkins; 14-15 (23 participants): Will Hughes, Killbuck; 15-16 (17 participants): Marlee Lloyd, Springfield; 17 and up (25 participants): Tanner Topp, Wooster.
Next year, Spring Dairy Expo will be held March 27-29, 2014, again at the Ohio Expo Center.
In addition to the shows, sales, and youth events, the 2014 Expo will also offer a Holstein USA Judges Conference for individuals interested in judging national Holstein shows.
