CLEVELAND – Ewolfs announces the results of its recent furniture, decorations, sculpture and fine art online auction. The top lot of the sale was the Arthur Quartley oil on canvas On Narragansett Bay estimated between $4,000 and $6,000. It sold for $16,560.
Other lots in the painting category did similarly well. The Adoration of the Shepherds, attributed to Hendrik van Balen the Elder, sold for $12,240. A floral still life by the circle of Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer sold for $7,130.
Emile Gruppe’s Nymphs, a highly collectible piece of American Impressionism, sold for $9,200; Max Bohm’s painting, A Young Girl Knitting sold for $7,245.
In the 18th-19th century Continental furniture category, top lots included a pair of French upholstered club chairs c. 1930 sold for $6,785; an exuberant pair of Venetian Roccoco-style chinoiserie-decorated vitrines, late 19th century sold for $5,750; a large pair of Meissen children porcelain busts modeled after the two eldest children of Louis, Dauphin of France sold for $2,875.
In glass, the set of 12 Steuben tulip-shaped goblets with pink opalescent and translucent strips raised on thin green stems generated a great deal of excitement. The winning bid of $6,647 came with only seconds left on the clock.
In the antiquities category, the group of Greek vases realized $15,950, plus the ewolfs’ premium.
