Opera classes feature guest presenters

CANTON, Ohio – The next “Let’s Learn About Opera Class” is scheduled for 10:30-noon, Feb. 3 in the Canton Museum of Art Library.

This continuing series of opera discussions, which began over four years by the museum’s executive director M. J. Albacete, continues to feature guest presenters from the Ohio Opera Theatre company. Admission is $5 at door.

The February program will highlight Concerto Di Pasqua – Easter Sunday 2000 concert commissioned by the Pope, and filmed at the Basilica di S. Maria degli Angeli in Rome.

It features Montserrat Caballe and her daughter, soprano Montserrat Marti with religious favorites by Handel, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Massenet, Mascagni, Alvarez, Perosi, Casals, and Bernstein.

The March program, set for March 3, will feature Verdi’s Il Trovatore, one of Verdi’s Bel Canto operas with an uninterrupted flow of arias, duets, and ensembles.
