Organics 101 workshop is Dec. 2

WOOSTER, Ohio — Ohio State University and the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association will host a workshop for new and aspiring Ohio organic farmers, “Organics 101: An Introduction to Organic Crop Production,” 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Dec. 2.

The workshop will be held at the Bromfield Administration Building, 8995 E. Main St., in Reynoldsburg near Columbus.

Highlights

Scientists from Ohio State’s Organic Food and Farming Education and Research program and practicing Ohio organic farmers will lead sessions on organic production methods and the organic certification process. Grains, fruits and vegetables will be the focus.

Organic certification standards, proven transition strategies, marketing options, organic economics, managing pests and fertility, understanding soil biology and its role, and the characteristics and design of effective crop rotations will be among the topics.

Registration, which includes lunch and a copy of OFFER’s 74-page Transition Guide to Certified Organic Crop Management, costs $30 per person for OEFFA members and $35 for non-members.
