WILMOT, Ohio – The Hiland High School FFA recognized its outstanding members at the annual parent-member banquet May 11 at the Alpine Alpa Restaurant in Wilmot.
Kelly Hershberger, daughter of Tim and Gail Hershberger, received the Star Greenhand Award. Nick Neuenschwander, son of Harold and Sue Neuenschwander, received the Star Chapter Farmer Award.
Anthony Troyer, son of Paul and Mary Troyer, received the Star in Agribusiness Award. Kyle Rhodes, son of Dave and Amy Rhodes, received the Outstanding Leadership Award.,
Scholarship awards went to Brandon Sommers, Ag I; Nathan Miller, Ag II; Randy Weaver, Ag III; and James Hershberger, Ag IV.
The urban soils team of Ross Mast, Bryan Olinger, Craig Hostetler and Jeff Wengerd and the forestry team of Anthony Troyer, Craig Hostetler, Roger Bracken and David Mathias were recognized for earning a berth in the state competition.
Top fruit salesman, Jason Kurtz, who sold 140 cases, was also recognized.
The Honorary Chapter Fanner Degree was presented to bus driver Dale Mathias, who drove the team to six contests, the state convention, several field trips and the Farm Science Review, and Garry Thomas, who served as chaperone for the group.
Guest speaker, Scott Tedrick, 2000-2001 District 8 president of the Ohio FFA Association, stressed the importance of being a role model.
The 2001-2002 officers installed include Nick Neuenschwander, president; Craig Hostetler, vice president; Amber Mobley, secretary; Kyle Rhodes, treasurer; Kelly Hershberger, reporter; Nathan Miller, student adviser; and David Mathias, sentinel.
