Pa. native takes top spot Keystone steer show

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Valerie Svonavec of Rockwood, Pa., exhibited the grand champion steer from among 31 head at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition Oct. 3 in Harrisburg.

The 15-year-old daughter of Vince and Donna Svonavec exhibited the 1,310 pound steer, winning the steer heavy weight class and heavy weight division champion.

Reserve champion

The reserve champion steer was exhibited by Brittany Full, a 19-year-old native of Mount Airy, Md. No stranger to the victory circle this week, Full also took top honors in the Angus show, winning premier exhibitor, grand champion Angus bull and reserve grand champion Angus Heifer.

Exhibitors represented five states including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, New Jersey and West Virginia.

Division winners in the KILE Steer Show were: Light weight champion steer: Matt Mitchell, Reinholds, Pa.; light weight reserve champion steer: Tyler Keller, Waterfall, Pa.; middle weight champion steer: Claudia Hissong, Greencastle, Pa.; middle weight reserve champion steer: Shelby Dean, New Castle, Pa.; heavy weight champion steer: Valerie Svonavec, Rockwood, Pa.; and heavy weight reserve champion steer: Brittany Full, Mount Airy, Md.
