HARRISBURG, PA. — The Pennsylvania Soybean Board is currently accepting grant applications for projects designed to improve the efficiency and profitability of Pennsylvania’s soybean producers.

Guidelines

Research projects that focus on the production and marketing of soy meal and soy oil, as well as issues related to freedom to operate and challenges and opportunities for soybean customers, will be considered for funding. All proposals must demonstrate benefits for soybean farmers.

Last year, the board, an all-farmer group which administers the program, provided more than $250,000 in funding grants for research projects to benefit soybean producers. Additional funding is now available for new research proposals designed to benefit soybean producers in the state.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 5.

Projects

Every year, the Pennsylvania Soybean Board sits down with soybean researchers to learn about the progress of current research projects and review new proposals. Recent projects have included research in support of Pennsylvania’s dairy, swine and poultry producers, research on weed and insect control, crop cover effectiveness in fixing nitrogen, and the effects of manure application on soybeans.

Proposals for research focusing on soybean production, utilization, education/information and marketing with a demonstrated benefit to soybean producers will be considered. Specific issues identified as research priorities by the board are listed in the “Research Proposal” section of www.pasoybean.org, but are not limited to these areas.

Applications

Grant application forms are available online by going to the website www.pasoybean.org. The board will hear grant request presentations and select grant recipients in February 2013.
