WOOSTER, Ohio — The Ohio Spring Sale, managed by the Ohio Holstein Association April 20 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, averaged $2,613 on the 67 full lots.
Three embryo lots averaged $2250, and two bulls averaged $950.
$12,000 tops sale
The top-selling lot was Pine-Tree Planet Shelly-ET, consigned by Pine-Tree Dairy, Marshallville, Ohio. Mark Acker, Acker Dairy Farms, Sterling, Ohio, paid $12,000 for the daughter of Ensenada Taboo Planet from the Wesswood-HC Rudy Missy family.
She had been re-scored Very Good 86, was milking 117 pounds, was bred to De-Su Alta Jackman, and carried a contract.
Pine-Tree Dairy also consigned the first consignment into the ring, Pine-Tree Jeeves Sheila, a 3-year-old daughter of Ked Outside Jeeves. Recently classified Very Good 86, she was milking 121 pounds, and was from five generations of Very Good and Excellent dams. Mark Acker also bought this entry, for $6,200.
Beach-Vale Talt Melanie-Red, consigned by Jacob Beachy Jr., Millersburg, Ohio, sold for $5,900 to RMD Dairy, Mark Dotterer, Sterling, Ohio. Recently classified Excellent 90, this red and white cow was milking 95 pounds per day and was sired by Ladino Park Talent,.
Another from Pine-Tree
Kevin Dotterer, Sterling, Ohio, made the final bid of $5,200 for Pine-Tree 1937 OBSER 4796,  a daughter of De-Su Observer re-bred to De-Su Alta Jackman, and carrying a contract. She was consigned by Pine-Tree Dairy.
Spring Walk Farm, William Wachtel, Big Prairie, Ohio, paid $5,000 for Neuview Shottle 443 for $5,000, classified Very Good 87, and consigned by Trent Neuenschwander, Dalton, Ohio.
Volume buyer in the sale was Ross Russell, Russell Springs, Ky., who purchased six consignments for a total of $19,400. Cattle sold to Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio.
Don Alexander was the sale’s general manager; Steve Andrews handled the auctioneer’s duties, with Ted Renner reading the pedigrees.
The consignments were presented by Steven Jordan and his fitting crew. Working the sale ring was Russell Kiko, Paul Haskins, Ken Janes, Kenneth Brown, and Don Alexander.
