GENEVA, Ohio — OSU Extension, KSU Vesta Program, and the Ashtabula Research Station for the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center are co-sponsoring the Northeast Ohio Winter Grape School from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 17 at the Geneva Lodge and Conference Center in Geneva-on-the-Lake.
Grape school
Ohio Wine and Grape Producers are invited to this school to be held at the Geneva Lodge and Conference Center on the shores of Lake Erie. This program will begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude by 4:30 p.m. The featured speakers for this program are: Les Ober, Dr. Mike Ellis, Dr. Imed Dami, Dr. Todd Steiner and Dave Scurlock from OSU Extension; Mike Schreiber from Fred’s Water Service; Dr. Jodi Creasap Gee, Director of the Kent State Ashtabula Viticulture and Enology Program (VESTA); Eric Cotton, Lake Erie Grape Grower and Rob Smith of National Grape Cooperative Association, Inc.
During this event, Ohio grape and wine producers will learn valuable updates to increase the profitability of their business.
Topics for discussion
Topics which will be discussed during this school include: Pesticide core safety; chemical mode of action; how much is too much wear on sprayer; scheduling pesticide sprays for the year; chemical options for wine and juice grape disease control; pesticide application spreadsheet; downy mildew and grape berry moth control; demystifying wine tasting; pesticide screening update on the spotted wing drosophila; best viticultural practices for Pinot gris; and how to make the most out of the mini-computer in your pocket.
The registration fee for this program is $35 per person which includes program materials, lunch and refreshments.
Enjoy BBQ pulled pork and grilled chicken breast sandwiches with coleslaw and potato salad prepared by the Geneva Lodge and Conference Center culinary staff.

Ohio Private Pesticide Applicator’s Re-certification will be offered for CORE (1 hr) and Category 3-Grapes (2 hrs).
