HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania aquaculture producers who experienced profit losses due to soaring feed costs in 2008 may be eligible for relief through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff said.

The Aquaculture Grant Program, part of the federal stimulus package, provides grants to farmers who experienced profit losses due to high feed costs.

Application deadline

Applications are available at www.iplantofarm.com and are due Oct. 16.

Department of Agriculture licensed aquaculture propagators who produce food, bait, ornamental or sport fish may be eligible to receive funds up to the amount of loss suffered as a result of high feed costs in 2008. Feed costs must have been at least 25 percent of the business’ total input costs.

Completed applications may be delivered or mailed to Dennis Hall, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 2301 N. Cameron St., Room 310, Harrisburg, PA 17110-9408.
