Red and White tops Holstein sale

WOOSTER, Ohio — The Ohio Holstein Summer Sale was held Aug. 25 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster.

When auctioneer Steve Andrews dropped the gavel on the last animal, a total of 58 full lots had sold for an average of $2,530.

Topping the sale at $6,800 was MS Starmark Royalty-Red-ET, a 2-year-old sired by KHW Kite Advent-Red and consigned by Starmark Farms, Wooster.

This Red and White had calved in June, and was bred back to Sandy-Valley Colt P-Red-TW. She was purchased by Patrick Twining, Wellington.

Second high seller was Pine-Tree Ohio Colt 5111-ET, a fall calf sired by Sandy Valley Colt P-Red-TW. She was polled, had contract interest, and sold for $6,300 to Dave Franzer and Jacque Meyer, Coldwater, Ohio.

Two entries brought $5,000. Con-River 1132 Shottle-ET, consigned by Richman Farms, Lodi, Ohio, sold to Acker Dairy Farms, Sterling, Ohio.

Pine-Tree Super Willow-ET, consigned by Matthew Steiner, Rittman, sold to Alan Brown, New Bremen, Ohio.

The volume buyer in the sale was Ted Schmitmeyer, Versailles, Ohio, who purchased four consignments for a total of $15,000.

Cattle sold not only in Ohio, but also to Ontario, Canada, and Indiana.

Steve Andrews, Wooster, Ohio, was the auctioneer, with Ted Renner, Dalton, Ohio, reading the pedigrees. Working the ring was Russell Kiko, Ken Janes, Don Alexander, and Kenneth Brown. Steven Jordan headed up the barn crew.
