CLEVELAND – The William G. Mather, a retired Great Lakes bulk freighter now a museum in the Cleveland waterfront, is holding unique storytelling tours this fall.
Legends of the Lakes storytelling tours will be offered Oct. 12-13, 19-20 and 26-27, from 7-10 p.m.
Tour the Mather at night and encounter Great Lakes ghosts from true and tall tales. Nongory storytelling tours with special effects are recommended for school-aged children.
Admission is $6/nonmember, $5/member. Reservations are suggested.
The Mather was built in Detroit by the Great Lakes Engineering Works, River Rouge, Mich., in 1925 as the flagship for the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company.
Today, the Steamer William G. Mather Museum is located at the foot of the East 9th Street Pier. Other attractions on North Coast Harbor include the USS Cod, a World War II vintage submarine, now a museum vessel, the International Women’s Air & Space Museum, the Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
Hours on the Mather for the remainder of the 2001 season (through Oct. 28) are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
