Soldiers teach Afghans agriculture

The United States military is teaching Afghans to farm, according to Military.com.

Soldiers from the Georgia Agricultural Development Team III, who work in 6-8 man teams, provide classes to Afghan officials. The idea is to help Afghans  improve their agricultural and business knowledge—giving young Afghans the skills to develop a source of income.

After Afghan officials take the classes, which include lessons on irrigation, pest control and seed quality, local farmers then attend.

It’s not just farming principles, however, the teams also teach classes on beekeeping.

The goal is to get farmers to grow enough food for their families, but also have surplus to sell at local markets.
