MILLERSBURG, Ohio – “Whether you have one horse in a lot back of the barn or a whole field full of horses, you must continually deal with the grazing, water, and fence issues,” said Dean Slates, Holmes County OSU Extension agriculture agent.

“And, the optimal solution to your grazing, water, and fence issues for horses may not be to follow the methods of your father or grandfather,” Slates added.

Field day. Pasture, fence and water for horses will be the subjects shown and addressed at a special field day to be held Oct. 13 at Sky View Ranch Baptist Church Camp.

The camp is located on Township Road 319 just east of Millersburg in Hardy Township.

Show and tell. Representatives of major fence companies will be on hand to demonstrate and discuss various elements of horse pasture fencing.

There will be horse watering displays and demonstrations including a solar water system that can deliver water to those remote locations on the farm.

Demonstrations and pasture walks will be held at 2 p.m. and then repeated at 6 p.m.

The public program is free.
