Special holiday weekend set at Malabar Farm

LUCAS, Ohio – Malabar Farm will host Christmas at Malabar, Dec. 7, 8 and 9, from 5-9 p.m. and Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Decorations at the Big House will feature fresh-cut greenery, candles, bubble lights, and many other items common to the 1940s.

In addition, the naturalist staff will be conducting a Christmas craft workshop during these times.

The four-day Christmas celebration will feature caroling, cookies, hot cider, and a visit with old St. Nick.

As a special treat for visitors, the only fee is for a self-guided tour of the Big House. The adult admission fee is $3 and children 6-18, $1. Additionally, canned food items will be collected for The Salvation Army of Richland County and donations are appreciated.

Reservations are recommended for groups of 15 or more and may be made by calling the park office at 419-892-2784.

The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library will sponsor a children’s reading of The Night Before Christmas in the Big House Dec. 7 and 8 at 6 p.m. For more information or to make reservations for the story reading, contact children services at the main library at 419-521-3130.

During the rest of the month of December, the Big House will be open for guided tours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays and holidays.

Malabar Farm is the former home of Pulitzer Prize winning novelist and noted conservationist Louis Bromfield. Now an Ohio state park, it is located 12 miles southeast of Mansfield, Ohio, one mile west of State Route 603 on Pleasant Valley Road.
