CANTON, Ohio – The Canton Museum of Art’s 10th annual Stark County High School Art exhibition will open March 25.
The exhibit will features original two- and three-dimensional works by high school students that are being judged by a panel selected by the museum for financial scholarship and honorable mention awards. An opening reception will be held at the museum from 2-4 p.m., with the awards ceremony scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
The exhibits run through April 8.
All pieces presented are original works created as part of the students’ school curriculums and chosen by the school’s art instructor. Each school is limited to a total of ten entries.
Awards presented.
The Museum presents three financial scholarship awards of $500 for first place, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place. There are also ten honorable mention awards for one CMA studio art class.
A special merit award will be presented by Cook’s Art Supplies and Framing. The recipient will receive a $50 gift certificate.
This year’s judges are local artist and instructor Linda Eckie Ewing and Lou Camerato, president of Community Arts Partners.
The exhibition will be held in the Timken, Schneider and Fry Galleries of the Museum of Art.
As has been done in previous years, a companion exhibition of the work of the students’ instructors will be presented in the Milligan Gallery. Each of the faculty members are invited to submit one or two works for exhibit.
There will be an exhibition of student art from the Canton City Schools.
Participating schools in the 2001 Stark County High School Art Exhibition are Canton South High School, Central Catholic, East Canton High School, Fairless High School, Glenoak Career Center, Glenoak West, Heritage Christian School, Hoover High School, Jackson High School, Lake High School, Louisville High School, McKinley Senior High School, Minerva High School, Perry High School, St. Thomas Aquinas, Tuslaw High School, and Washington High School.
The Canton Museum of Art, located at 1001 Market Ave. N., is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 7-9 p.m., and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Admission is free during the run of these exhibitions.
