MASSILLON, Ohio — The Stark SWCD will once again partner in a grant through the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District to implement cover crops. Last year, the local SWCD cost-shared $13 per acre, which assisted in getting cover crops on 1,384 acres of Stark County farmland.

Applications will go through a scoring process to see which fields are the most eligible. Organizers hope to get winter cover on fields with low residue, such as corn silage and soybeans. Therefore, low residue fields will score higher.

The 2016 cost-share rate will be $12/acre. Interested applicants must schedule an appointment with Stark SWCD prior to sign-up deadline of June 20.

For more information, contact Sarah Kapper at 330-451-7643. Enrollment is not eligible in non-jurisdictional MWCD areas of Lake, Marlboro, Lexington and Washington townships.
