My opinion is that the most-read section of a newspaper, including the Farm and Dairy, is the letter to the editor page.
I want to respond to the letter from Jerome Stephens in Warren, Ohio (July 1, 2004, Politically contrasting opinions are OK). He started out with a mild rebuke to editors to publish all viewpoints. It ends up bashing President Bush first class.
Mr. Stephens states, “In an effort to gain cheap glory for himself, he promotes a war on a flimsy pretext against a weak and convenient enemy.”
Where was Mr. Stephens when the United Nation passed the resolution 17 times? It was refused by Saddam Hussein.
President Bush was making an effort to protect the American people from weapons of mass destruction. The intelligence was indicated that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.
The president was acting on the best information that he had. The critics are using 20/20 hindsight. Not to have acted would be neglect of duty by the president.
Mr. Stephens closed his letter with the following quote, “as soon as men decide that all means are permitted to fight an evil, then their good becomes indistinguishable from the evil they set out to destroy.” (Christopher Dawson, The Judgment of Nations)
President Bush was not seeking to destroy an evil he did not see, but an evil that was visible to all.
He was seeking to destroy a dictator who was dangerous to all civilizations.
Ohio and Pennsylvania are key states in the coming presidential election. I want to set the record as much as I can about the war on terror.
This year alone the major media will “spend” through in kind coverage more than $2 billion to defeat President Bush and elect Kerry.
ABC, CBS, and NBC: Media’s Three Stooges are Dan Rather, Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw will do anything in their power to defeat Bush.
Thankfully, the left wing media are not getting the full bang for their buck. The polls show the public is catching on and “is not buying the news the way they once did.”
President Bush is an honest man. He would rather be right than president.
