HARRISBURG, Pa. — The PennAg Feed, Grain and Allied Industry Council will host a training opportunity for industry members, to learn the concepts of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point which will help each company meet the requirements contained in the Food Safety Modernization Act regulations.

The training will be held June 5-7 at the Lancaster Farm & Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.

Concept

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point is a concept used around the globe to identify hazards in the food and feed supplies to protect consumers and animals. The mandates of the FSMA rely on the concepts of HACCP throughout the food supply chain, including animal feed.

Although FSMA does not require HACCP specifically, HACCP is a way for a firm to build their Hazard Analysis and Preventative Controls Plan, which is required by FSMA. This program will provide attendees with the knowledge to implement these concepts in their own facility — feed mill, ingredient mixing, grain elevators, etc. — to meet the mandates contained in the Food Safety Modernization Act.

The training will include interactive sessions to work on individual facility HACCP plans. Attendees are encouraged to bring information from their own facility to apply the concepts taught throughout the training.

Upon completion of the course, attendees will receive a certificate of completion and will be added to the International HACCP Alliance training database.

Training fee

The cost of the training is $400 for PennAg members and $550 for non-members and includes all training materials, morning refreshments and lunch Tuesday and Wednesday.
