We lost some great ones in century’s first decade: Merlin Woodruff

Merlin Woodruff

Merlin D. Woodruff, nationally known auctioneer and voice of the Ohio State Fair Sale of Champions for 46 years, died Dec. 30, 2007.

A graduate of the Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1948, Woodruff also cried the All-American Jersey Cattle Sale for more than 40 years. He sold all types of auctions, but was known nationally for selling livestock, and conducted sales in 45 states and two Canadian provinces. Known for honesty and professionalism, he influenced an entire generation of auctioneers throughout the United States.

He received a number of awards for his work as an auctioneer, including induction into the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame and the Ohio Auctioneers Hall of Fame. He also received the meritorious service awards from the American Jersey Cattle Association and National All-Jersey Inc.
