WILMOT, Ohio – The Wilderness Center is offering a trip to Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park and the Bear Tooth Highway Sept. 8-16.
Highlights of this trip will include a raft float down the Snake River through Grand Teton National Park, easy trail walks at Jackson Hole and a train ride to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. The trip corresponds with the elk rut. Participants will see bull elks with huge racks “bugle” for the attention of females. The Teton range climbs 7,300 feet from the Snake River in Jackson Hole to alpine glacier country at the 13,770 foot peak of Grand Teton in one wall intervening foot hills.
Jackson Hole.
In Jackson Hole, participants will visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art, where they can view works by the foremost wildlife artists in the world. On this trip participants will view and photograph moose, bison, coyotes, pronghorn, Trumpeter Swans, and perhaps even Golden Eagles.
The Grand Tetons are just a warm-up for a visit to Yellowstone National Park, the first national park ever created.
Yellowstone Park.
The trip includes the grand tour of Yellowstone, including the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Yellowstone Falls, Hayden Valley, the Terrace, and more.
Participants will stay at the Yellowstone Lodge. There participants will walk the geyser basin and enjoy Old Faithful, Castle, Grand, Riverside and many other famous geysers and thermal features. Bison and elk are plentiful and there are opportunities to see much more.
Buffalo Bill
From Yellowstone, the trip progresses east to Cody, Wyo., where participants will visit the Buffalo Bill Museum. This museum is really four museums in one. It has a collection of Western art, a collection of firearms, the story of the Buffalo Bill Cody, and a museum of the Plains Indians.
From Cody, participants will make the grand loop over the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway and the Bear Tooth Highway.
Most of the Bear Tooth Highway is above the timber line, so participants can enjoy unlimited photographic opportunities of glacier-carved mountains, alpine lakes, and tundra panoramas.
