Wildflowers planted to boost Ohio bee population

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that something is being done to reverse Ohio’s declining bee population.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has planted wildflower seeds in the median along State route 207 in Ross County, located in southern Ohio. Once the flowers have grown, the nectar and pollen will attract bees and hopefully help to boost the bee population.

Bees play a vital role in agriculture, pollinating dozens of crops produced in Ohio and in other states. In the United States, $14 billion of crops rely on honeybees for pollination each year.
