PROSPECT, Pa. — The Northwest Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association sponsored the annual Keystone Junior Beef Classic May 23 and 24.
Exhibitors came from Maryland, New York, Ohio, Virginia and Pennsylvania to compete for prizes. Breeds included Angus, Hereford, Limousin, Maine-Anjou, Shorthorn, Simmental and cross-bred.
Overall, 129 breeding stock and 92 steers were shown by 127 youth.
Showmanship classes, with 105 participants, were judged May 23 by Lance Knauff. Breeding classes and steer classes were judged May 24 by Kevin Hinds.
Showmanship
Tristann Burrows of Titusville, Pa., won the showmanship chair for Division I (18-21). Austin Howe of Wagontown, Pa., won the award for Division II (16 and 17). Aleesha Howe of Wagontown was judged best in Division III (14 and 15). Rachel McKean of Mercer, Pa., won for Division IV (12 and 13). Natalie Strub of North Collings, N.Y., was the winner in Division V (10 and 11). Terrill Treaster of Spring Mills, Pa., won the chair for Division VI (9 and younger).
Females
Nicole McElhaney, Jamestown, Pa., won the supreme champion female award with her Shorthorn heifer. The reserve supreme champion female was a cross-bred shown by Andrew Hoelscher of Eden, N.Y.
The champion Angus female was shown by Marshall McKean of Mercer. The reserve champion was exhibited by Burrows.
Aleesha Howe exhibited the champion Hereford female, and Andre Howe, Wagontown, showed the reserve champion.
The champion Limousin female was shown by Chelsey Kelly of Wampum, Pa., and the reserve champion was exhibited by Jocelyn Kelly, Wampum.
Dylan Giebner, Saegertown, Pa., showed the champion Maine-Anjou female, and Grant McCabe of Rochester, Pa., exhibited the reserve champion.
The champion Shorthorn was shown by McElhaney, and the reserve champion was exhibited by Christina Hash of Berryville, Va.
Burrows showed the champion Simmental female, and Cody Downs, Stoneboro, exhibited the reserve champion.
A. Hoelscher showed the champion cross-bred female, and Justine Yoder of Conneautville, Pa., exhibited the reserve champion.
Steers
Monica Drobezko, Slippery Rock, Pa., displayed the supreme champion steer. The reserve supreme champion steer was exhibited by Joshua Hoelscher of Eden, N.Y.
County steer classes were offered for counties with more than five entries. The Beaver County champion steer was shown by Marshall Allison, Georgetown, and the reserve champion steer belonged to Bruce Frederick, Zelienople. The Butler County champion steer was exhibited by Tyler Miller of Saxonburg, and the reserve champion by Gilbert Osche of Cabot.
Amanda Mosier of Cochranton showed the champion steer of Crawford County.
Burrows of Titusville exhibited the reserve champion steer of Crawford County.
The champion steer of Erie County, N.Y., was shown by J. Hoelscher, and the reserve champion steer was exhibited by Sarah Barber of Angola.
Monica Drobezko of Slippery Rock owned the champion steer of Lawrence County. The reserve champion steer belonged to Matt Drobezko, Slippery Rock. Lena Aiken of New Wilmington showed the champion steer of Mercer County, and Cody McKean of Mercer exhibited the reserve champion steer.
Exhibitors from counties with less than five entries showed in the open steer classes. The champion steer belonged to Bill Work of Uniontown, Pa., and the reserve champion steer belonged to Valerie Svonavec of Rockwood, Pa.
