Zombie Prom is rock and roll musical with student cast

ASHTABULA, Ohio – Zombie Prom has hit the boards in Ashtabula, and it will be hanging around for two more weekends.

A musical stage play billed as “pure entertainment with a rock and roll beat,” Zombie Prom opened June 29 at the Ashtabula Arts Center’s Straw Hat Theatre. The show be performed again July 5-8 and 12-14.

Set in the nuclear fifties, the story takes place in the halls and classrooms of Enricco Fermi High School, where a rebellious teenager named Jonny ends his life with a jump into the nearby nuclear power plant reactor. But he comes back as a zombie to take his girl to the prom.

It is definitely a “zombie prom” to remember, as secrets are revealed and love wins out in the end.

The cast of Zombie Prom features many teenagers from area high schools, including Grand Valley’s Kim Weston, Ben Gates, and Adam Kapis; Edgewood’s Ian Jones; Geneva’s Steve Sposito, Caitlin Dubsky, Randy Prill, and Alexandria Lowe; and Saints John and Paul’s Jordan Malin.

Additional cast members include college students Angela Pruett, Lauren Case and Doug Anderson.

The show is directed by Debra Greene-Lowe, with musical direction by Joy Leirer. Choreography is provided by Clover Robinson.

Curtain time for all shows is 8 p.m. Tickets for the Thursday and Sunday shows are $11 for patron, $8 general admission, $7 seniors, $6 students, and $5 children under 12. Friday and Saturday shows are $11 for patron, $9 general admission, $8 seniors, $7 students, and $6 children under 12.
