EDINBURG, Pa. — Donald Whiting, 91, of 2423 Garner Road, Edinburg, Pa., died June 4 at 1:02 a.m. at his residence.

Whiting was born Aug. 20, 1917, a son of David Laird and Carol Dickson Whiting in Coitsville, Ohio.

He married the former Madge Maxine Neely Oct. 29, 1945. She survives.

Next to God and his family, he was dedicated to farming all of his life. He also worked for Valley Freight Line and was a school bus contractor for 17 years for Wilmington Area schools.

Whiting was a 1936 graduate of New Castle High School. He was a charter member of Nashua Orthodox Presbyterian Church and attended Pulaski Presbyterian Church, where he had been an elder and trustee.

He was a former member of Wilmington Grange, Wilmington Lodge No. 804 F&AM and ancient accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle.

He formerly served on the Wilmington school board.

Survivors include his wife and four sons, David, John, Laird and Joseph; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Leise, and two brothers Robert and Francis Whiting.

Visitation was held June 7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington. The Rev. C. Robert Hibshman, pastor of the Pulaski Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Richard Nero, hospice chaplain, officiated.

Services were held June 8 at the funeral home.
