SALEM, Ohio —Dwight L. Nelson Sr., 62, of Salem, died at Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Nelson was born on March 15, 1952, in Winchester, Va., to the late H. O. and Ruth V. (Bohrer) Nelson. He had retired this year from Brunk’s RV, where he was a truck driver for 22 years, and had received an award for his miles of safe traveling as an excellent driver from the Teamsters Union.

He attended the Connecting Point Chapel in Beloit, and formerly the Salem Allegheny Wesleyan Church.

Mr. Nelson had volunteered as an assistant soccer coach, worked with youth groups with nursing home ministry, and served as a former bus driver at the Salem Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church. A deacon of the Brethren Church in West Virginia, he currently was usher at Connecting Point Chapel.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sarah Ann (Ling) Nelson, whom he married Jan. 13, 1978; his children, Dwight Nelson Jr. of Idaho; Nicholas and Adam Nelson, both of Salem; and Shannon Nelson-Bell of Salem; siblings, Alvin Nelson of Chambersburg, Pa.; Herman Nelson of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; Wanda Ebersole of Chambersburg, Pa.; Helen Cowgill of Milton, Delaware; Linda Lambert of Augusta, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings Kenneth, Jennings and Dale Nelson.

Services were held July 5 at the Connecting Point Chapel, Beloit, officiated by Pastor James Keaton. The family has asked that donations be made to help with the cost of the funeral.
