HANOVERTON, Ohio — Walter E. Watson, 95, died June 1, 2014, at the Salem Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Wellsville, Ohio, to the late Walter and Florence May (Thompson) Watson.

He married Doris Eleanor McKarns on June 15, 1946. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2004.

Mr. Watson lived in the Salineville area before moving to Hanoverton in 1954. He retired from Loudon Ford in 1983 after 36 years.

He was a member of the Hanoverton Presbyterian Church, and served in the U.S. Army 101st and 82nd divisions in Africa and Italy during World War II. He was a member of the Highlandtown Grange and was active in various steam and gas engine clubs.

He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Stoughton and Cheryl Watson-Switzer, both of Hanoverton; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Halter of Bridgeport, Texas; and Betty Billie, of Hill Crest, Ohio; a brother, Donald Watson, of Mount Vernon, Ohio; and sister-in-law Margaret Watson, of Hanoverton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Harold and Robert.

Calling hours were June 4 at the church, just prior to the funeral, officiated by Pastor Tom Allmon. Burial followed at Grove Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Hanoverton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 172, Hanoverton, OH 44423.
