MANTUA, Ohio — William David Alger, 86 years of age, passed away Nov. 23, in Aurora, Ohio. Born Sept. 6, 1927, in Windham, Ohio, he was the son of the late Burrell and Eliza (Goatley) Alger.

A graduate of Windham High School, Alger served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a dairy farmer in Ravenna for many years.

He was a member of the Farm Service Agency committee, the Portage County Dairy committee, and the Portage County Corn Club. He also served on the board of directors for the Central Ohio Breeding Association.

He was active in the Mantua Center Christian Church.

Following his military service, Alger married Glenna (Heckman) Alger, who passed away 1990 after 42 years of marriage. Also preceding him in death were siblings Richard Alger and Grace Peterson.

On July 26, 1992, he married Gloria (Parker) Howard, Alger who survives at their home. Also surviving are his sons, David Alger and Richard Alger; daughter Jayne Reaser, step-children Michael Howard and Philip Howard, all of Ravenna, Nancy Tafel and Patty Kelley, both of Hiram, Ohio.

A sister, Norah-Creina Dalzell, of Columbia, Mo., 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.

Calling hours were Dec. 1. He will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio, with military honors. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Mantua Center Christian Church, 4118 state Route 82, Mantua, Ohio, with Rev. Chad Delaney officiating.
