Fry Bread
Recipe provided by Montana State University Extension.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup dry powdered milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
- 3/4 to 1 cup warm water
- 2 to 3 cups vegetable oil
Directions
In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, dry milk and sugar. Pour water into flour mixture. Stir to make a soft dough. Too much handling toughens dough. Divide dough into 6 pieces. On a floured surface, pat or roll into rounds about 1/4 inch thick. With a knife, make a slit in center. Heat oil to 375°. Fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towel.
