Wheel Bread
Recipe provided by Montana State University Extension.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon butter, margarine or shortening
Directions
In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add water until it forms slightly sticky dough. Turn dough onto a clean, floured surface. Knead about 10 times, adding flour until dough loses its stickiness. Shape into 2 balls and flatten into two rounds. Place a large frying pan over medium heat. Melt butter. Place one dough round in bottom of pan. Flatten with finger tips to spread dough in bottom of pan if necessary. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes. Lift an edge with a spatula and check for golden brown color. Turn bread over. Continue to cook for 5 minutes longer. Remove from pan and cut into 6 pieces. Repeat procedure with second piece of dough.
