  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup dried cherries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips


  1. In a small bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour, oats, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  4. Stir in cherries and chocolate chips.
  5. Drop by scant 1/4 cupfuls 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  6. Bake at 350° for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Cool for 1 minute before removing from baking sheets to wire racks.
  8. Store in an airtight container.
  9. Yield: 15 cookies.
