For 3 1/2 quart crock-pot, wash, core, and quarter apples to fill crock pot (do not peel).
- 3 cups of white sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
DO NOT ADD WATER. Cook on HIGH 3 to 4 hours Stir, turn on low and cook 9 hours more. DO NOT REMOVE LID OR STIR DURING THIS TIME. Put apple butter through a food mill. (I have the jars getting warm in oven on low. And also have lids hot in water bath.) Fill pint jars or jelly jars. Process 10 minutes in boiling water bath. Makes 4 to 5 pints. Double recipe for 6 quarts. I used Wolf River apples if you can find them. (Not many around any more.)
