Gov. Corbett signs law cutting red tape for livestock exhibitors

HARRISBURG, Pa. —  Many livestock exhibitors no longer need to provide a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship form to exhibit their animals at Pennsylvania fairs or other livestock shows.

Form elimination

Gov. Tom Corbett signed Senate Bill 526 in June, making Pennsylvania or interstate health certificates proof of a relationship between veterinarian and exhibitor and eliminating the need for the extra form.

“Pennsylvania’s livestock producers work closely with their veterinarians to ensure the health and safety of our animals,” said Agriculture Secretary George Greig. “Those relationships are built on years of knowledge, trust and quality care. The veterinarian’s signature on a health certificate is hard proof of this, without requiring a second piece of paper.”

Extra paperwork eliminated

If a health certificate is not required for the livestock species or show, the form must still be used. The fair or exhibition may incorporate the form’s language into an existing entry blank, avoiding the need to file additional paperwork.

State law requires a veterinarian to write a current certificate of health for most animal species exhibited in the state.
