Hazard A Guess: Week of June 14, 2001

Hello from Hazard!

Three more readers correctly identified Item No. 621 as a ballot box often used by fraternal organizations. We appreciate hearing from: Larry Bettinger, Summerfield, Ohio; Ed Calain, Lordstown, Ohio; and E.H. Cunningham, Chardon, Ohio.

This week, we show Item No. 622 again, submitted by Ralph Moreland, who doesn’t know what it was used for. Moreland has shown the item, which originally belonged to his grandfather, to many people, “but nobody knows for sure,” he writes. For what it’s worth, he adds, his grandfather was involved with steam tractors many years ago – is this tool used with steam?

I’m going to hold on to a guess sent in from Ted Anielski (sorry, Ted) and keep you in suspense – and hopefully sending in a guess – for another week.
