WOOSTER, Ohio — The 17th Annual Texas Longhorn show was staged July 19 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, Ohio.

Registered Texas Longhorn cattle sparred for championship awards in 56 International Texas Longhorn Association-approved classes, including three cross-bred classes.

Exhibitors came mostly from Ohio, but also several from Indiana and Kentucky. Judge for the show was association-approved training judge, June Cohron DVM, of Stuarts Draft, Virginia.

Champions

Tempters Trophy won all age grand champion nonhalter grand champion female honors. She was raised and exhibited by Dickinson Cattle Company of Barnesville, Ohio.

The all age champion halter steer was AA Clever Oliver, a 2009 steer exhibited by Gail Beach of Huntington, Indiana.

Nonhalter classes

Unique classes included early starters “pee wee” classes, youth halter, open halter and nonhalter. Unlike other breeds, Texas Longhorn shows are popular for the nonhalter classes where cow/calf pairs, exhibition steers and all ages of registered cattle show freely in the show arena. Judging evaluation takes into consideration poise, disposition, mothering ability, travel, as well as all other points of purity and conformation.

According to Ohio River Valley Texas Longhorn Association President Tim Mills of Perrysville, Ohio, the crowd in attendance is believed to be the largest of the previous shows.

Mills has already contracted to use the Wayne County Fairgrounds again for the 2015 event. For more information about the Ohio association, contact secretary Martha Sherer, 419-756-8369 or shererwood@centurylink.net.
