Salem Public Library will host the program “Legends and True Tales of the Sandy and Beaver Canal” to be presented on October 16, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Quaker Room.

The building of the canal that was to connect Bolivar, Ohio to Glasgow, Pennsylvania was completed in 1848. The canal extended for approximately seventy-three miles and had ninety locks. Plagued by many problems including financial issues operation of the canal ceased in the early 1850’s.
Join Paranormal Historian Kimberly Mitchell as she shares stories of life and death along the canal such as the daring ride of seventy-three-year-old Judge John Bowman when a reservoir burst along the canal, and could it be possible that little Margaret Lusk could be entombed in Lusk Lock? Is it true that the real story of Esther Hale is even more amazing than the ghost story told about her?

Registration is required online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or by calling the library at 330-332-0042 for registration assistance. This fascinating program is open to the public and free of cost to attend.
