LOUDONVILLE, Ohio — The Loudonville Livestock Club named their 47th club year Supreme Champions. Kaleb Shriver earned the supreme market lamb championship for his work; Mahala Kandel earned the supreme championship for her market hog project; and Justin VanSickle earned the supreme market steer championship.
Club participants earned points for their work that began with the spring shows and concluded with placements in the carcass show that followed the October fair.
The last contest results were from the market steer carcass show and the ultrasound results from images taken during the fair for evaluation of the market hogs’ and lambs’ muscling composition.
Earning first place in the market lamb ultrasound was Kaleb Shriver. Sarah Carroll placed second and Jacob Ashby’s lamb placed third.
Mahala Kandel’s evaluation of her market hog placed her first, followed by Cheyenne Bryson and Danielle Schumaker.
Justin VanSickle’s market steer carcass placed first in this show. Alex Augenstein placed second and Samantha Spreng, third.
The show is one of the few steer projects conducted as a “hoof to rail” program of the region. The market steers sold on Saturday of the fair and are processed locally, are entered into the evaluation process. The judging is conducted by USDA Certified Meat Grader Lane Biddle.
The year-end appreciation and awards banquet was held at the Loudonville School Campus Nov. 2.
Club advisers include Susan Shriver, Jesse Ashby, Jeff Byers, Victor Strasbaugh, and Shawn Shriver. The Sale Committee includes Carol Endslow, Debbie Ayers, Jacklyn Endslow, Carol Beck, and Carol Spreng.
Total net sales tallied $110,039.30 with the sales of 14 head of market lambs, 45 head of market hogs and 15 head of market steers.

CANFIELD, Ohio — Collin Meehan was presented the 4-H Spirit Award by club officers Levi Smith, Jena Styka and Ian Hames when the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H club met for its annual Member Recognition Night.
Adviser Robin Reph distributed the 2014 4-H Family Guide and advised the youth to help with recruiting new members. She also encouraged members to attend The Ohio 4-H Conference in March. The Collegiate 4-H sponsored Plow Boy Prom will take place that evening at the new 4-H Center on the campus of Ohio State University.
Diane and Jim Pitcairn were thanked for their 12 years as 4-H advisers. They will be retiring. Bob and Karen Day were recognized for completing 25 years as 4-H advisers. Members received their 4-H Certificates Of Achievement, the Canfield Fair exhibit premiums and their project ribbons.
Western Reserve Rangers will meet Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Ellsworth Fire Hall for their annual organizational meeting. Any prospective new members can attend the January meeting or contact Jan and Kathleen Moser at 330-547-7422.
