CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Zane Trace FFA food science and technology team of Beau Bilek, Mariah Cox, Kasandra Dalton and Amber Ginter recently placed third out of 20 teams in the state contest. The competition was held at The Ohio State University, in the Parker Food Science building, which is home to OSU’s food science department.
Each team had to complete a product development scenario in which they worked as a group to select a formula, design a label and calculate nutrition facts for a new food product.
The third place finish is the highest finish ever for a Zane Trace team in the state competition.
Senior Kasandra Dalton took top individual honors by placing first out of 80 competitors. For her efforts she earned a $3,000 scholarship to The Ohio State University. Kasandra plans to major in food science and nutrition and is currently considering OSU as one of her college choices.

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — The Hillsdale FFA chapter held the junior and senior sub-district Parliamentary Contest. The chapter hosted Mapleton, Firelands, Loudonville, and Lorain JVS.
Hillsdale entered two junior parliamentary procedure teams along with a senior parliamentary procedure team. The first place junior team consisted of Malery Sloan, Mckayla Fink, Sarah Lifer, Riley Carpenter, Alana Stamen, Spencer Rook, Reganne Heffelfinger, Brayden Fath, and Daniel Garn.
The second place junior team consisted of Ethan Garber, Adrianna Rogers, Ryan Markley, Summer Frost, Shane Cook, Adrianne McPhillips, Sean Fitzsimmons and Cheyenne Adams, with alternates Laci Chavez and Tiphany Briggs.
Hillsdale’s senior team of Megan Poynter, Keayla Harr, Shelbi Long, Laura Yeater, Bryce Payne, Bethany Heiby, Ben Raudebaugh, and Amanda Garn with Katie Mager and Joey Nebergall as alternates took first place.
Both first place junior and senior parliamentary procedure teams competed in districts at Wynford High School. The junior parliamentary team placed first and the senior parlimentary team placed second. Both teams will be advancing to state, which will be held Dec. 28 in Columbus.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — The Northwestern FFA chapter will be selling whole hog sausage as a fundraiser. The money raised will be used for items such as member awards, career development event entry fees, Leadership Conferences and State and National FFA Convention trips.
This is the Northwestern FFA’s second largest fundraiser. Members will be making the fresh sausage at Heffelfinger’s Meats Inc. Feb. 1 and the sausage will be delivered the same day.
The state-inspected, fresh, whole hog bulk sausage is available in spiced (with salt and pepper) or non-spiced. The cost is $18 for a 5-pound bag.
