Mahoning River consortium seeking new members

YOUNGSTOWN – The Mahoning River Consortium is continuing its quest for prospective members interested in restoring and maintaining a higher environmental quality of the Mahoning River, its corridor, and its watershed.

Those interested are invited to the next meeting scheduled for March 16 at 1 p.m. at Room 120 of the Kent State University – Trumbull Campus.

The featured speaker is Martin L. Schmidt, director of Environmental Remediation for the Cleveland-based URS Corporation.

Schmidt, who has 18 years experience conducting and managing environmental projects dealing with soil and groundwater assessment and remediation issues, will give a presentation titled, “Dredging and Dewatering of Hazardous Impoundment Sediment Using the Dry Dredge and Geotubes,” with particular reference to the Mahoning River Environmental Dredging Study.

MRC president Patricia Natali will give a status report on the feasibility phase of the proposed dredging project.
