Western Pa. 4-H, FFA’ers claim dairy trophies

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Junior dairy exhibitors from across west-central Pennsylvania participated in the annual district dairy show for 4-H and FFA members July 18 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

Turner Swartz, Port Royal, Pa., judged the type and showmanship classes for the Holstein, Red and White, and Milking Shorthorn breeds. Steve Moff, Columbiana, Ohio, judged the Jersey, Guernsey, Brown Swiss and Ayrshire shows and showmanship. More than 260 head were entered.

The following exhibitors won junior or senior champion honors in the individual breeds:

Holstein. Grand champion and best bred and owned, Justin W. Kennedy, Lawrence County, Red-Springs Damion Jewel; reserve champion, Claire Nye, Beaver County; junior champion: Brooklyn Peters, Butler County; reserve junior champion: Justin W. Kennedy, Lawrence County.

Jersey. Grand champion and best bred and owned: Larissa Lesney, Butler County, Chestnut-Run Clancy Peanut Butter; reserve champion, Emily McKissick, Lawrence County; junior champion: Jamie Trotter, Lawrence County; reserve junior champion, Allie Cameron, Mercer County.

Guernsey. Grand champion and best bred and owned: Travis Covert, Butler County, Oakland Powerballs Lilly; reserve grand champion: Madison Shiderly, Lawrence County; junior champion: Amanda Minor, Mercer County; reserve junior champion: Cara Trotter, Lawrence County.

Milking Shorthorn. Seth Whiting, Lawrence County, senior and grand champion, Designer Genes Mona; Kara Yannesse, Lawrence County, reserve grand champion and best bred and owned, and junior champion; David Riley, Crawford County, reserve junior champion.

Brown Swiss. Grand champion: Ryan Guidice, Beaver County, breeze Ridge Mascot Kartel; reserve champion: Reed Becze, Beaver County; best bred and owned: Jaclyn Thompson, Lawrence County; junior champion: Jordan Kennedy, Butler County; reserve junior champion: Jaclyn Thompson.

Red and White. Grand champion: Morgan Minor, Mercer County, Minor Acres Advent Candy-Red ET; reserve champion: Ryan Guidice, Beaver County; junior champion: Chloe Sturgeon, Lawrence County; reserve junior champion: Ian Taylor, Mercer County.

Ayrshire. Grand champion and best bred and owned: Kaitlin Martin, Lawrence County, Martinholm Wilton Wren; reserve champion: Sawyer Johnson, Washington County; junior champion and reserve junior champion: Brooklyn Peters.
