WALNUT CREEK, Ohio — Miriam M. Miller, 85, of Walnut Creek, Ohio, died March 27, 2013, at her residence.

She was born June 2, 1927, in Sugarcreek, Ohio, to the late John H. and Gladys (Lenhart) Stingel.

She attended Heidelberg University, Kent State University and the University of Wyoming.

She taught school from 1947-1954 at Ragersville and Fresno Schools, was retired deputy treasurer of Holmes County, volunteer seamstresMiriam Millers at Walnut Hills Retirement Home, volunteer for the German Culture Museum and the former Global Crafts, charter member of the Walnut Creek Fine Arts Club and a member of the Rowdy Readers Book Club at the Walnut Creek Library.

Miriam was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ at Walnut Creek and a member of the church choir. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Donald W. Miller, whom she married Aug. 2, 1952; her daughters, Jean (Steven) Brown of Beaufort, S.C., Joyce (Rod) Brady of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Carol (Joe) Pozuc of Kent, and Susan (Keith) Crowell of Lisbon; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her brothers, Voris Stingel of Dundee, John Clyde Stingel of Pickerington, Charles Stingel of Warren; and her sisters, Mary Griggs of Abilene, Texas, and Aletha Riedesel of Hoquiam, Wa.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Mitchell A. Miller.

Services will be held March 30 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ at Walnut Creek with the Rev. Mark Behrendt officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery in Walnut Creek.

Friends may call March 29 from 4-7 p.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek and March 30 from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to services.
