LISBON, Ohio — Gause Equipment Inc. was started by Charles “Chuck” Gause and Francis Richey in 1956, and was known as Gause and Richey, a pick-up and delivery service. Then Gause secured an International Harvester franchise.

At that time, the business was surrounded by cornfields.

Gause Equipment is located at 33170 state Route 172 at Guilford Lake in Lisbon, Ohio. It is owned by Frank and Pat Zehentbauer.

The name of the business was changed to Gause Equipment Inc. when Richey died and his partnership in the business was purchased by the Zehentbauers. Gause became a Columbiana County commissioner and sold his partnership in the business. In 2010, Gause was inducted into the Columbiana County Agriculture Hall of Fame.

The business employs 11 full-time people, including Mike Voytek, who has been part of the company for 24 years; Marty Wells, 14 years; Mike Cianni, 20 years; Joe McKarns, 16 years; Marlan Mohler, 25 years; Kent Baker, four years; and Amy Lutz, who works in the office.

The business is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. -noon on Saturdays.

Gause Equipment sells and services Case International tractors and equipment, Massey Ferguson, Cub Cadet, Kuhn (hay equipment), Knight (manure spreaders) and Miller (forage equipment) lines.

They also stock American-made Ertl toys and offer a top notch service department.
