Founded in 1965
Consumers was founded in 1965 by local business leaders in Minerva who wanted to create a locally owned bank.
The bank is now wholly owned by Consumers Bancorp, Inc. which is led by Chairman Laurie McClellan and 10 local businessmen who serve as directors. The bank’s stock is publicly traded under the symbol CBKM and is owned by nearly 1,000 shareholders.
In 1975, the bank expanded by opening its second branch in Salem. In the years that followed, it opened branches in Waynesburg, Hanoverton, Carrollton, Alliance, Lisbon, Louisville, East Canton, Malvern, Hartville and Jackson-Belden.
Since its inception, Consumers has grown to 121 employees and 12 locations.
Looking ahead
Over the next five years, Consumers expects to see growth created by the oil and gas activity that is strong in Consumers market area. This should lead to growth in the number of personal deposit customers and in the financial planning area as more people make investments.
Consumers also expects to assist more agriculture customers with the improvement and expansion of their operations.
