business profile CANTON, Ohio — Leppo Rents is focused on the rental, sale and support of construction equipment, most of which is under 100 horespower. They are a Bobcat dealer and carry the full line of Bobcat loaders, excavators, utility vehicles and attachments.

In addition they have JLG Aerial Work platforms up to 135-foot high and JLG Telehandlers with a maximum lift capacity of 12,000 pounds and 55 feet of height.

Leppo’s also is a dealer for Doosan Portable Power generators, and light towers and they have compressors up to 375 cfm. They also rent compaction equipment, concrete equipment and other tools to help you get your jobs done quickly.

Many locations

Roy and Stella Leppo founded Leppo’s as an Oliver Farm Equipment dealership inn Akron in 1945. Their son, Dick, joined them when he left the Navy in 1946. Today Leppo’s is owned and operated by the third generation of the family and has six Leppo Rents facilities in Akron, Canton, Cleveland (East and West), Wooster and Youngstown.

All of those locations are also dealers for Bobcat’s wide range of compact equipment. In May of 2013 Leppo’s formed a new company, Razor Rents, to focus on the oil and gas opportunities in the Carrollton area.

In 2012, Leppo’s added more workers, rental fleet and delivery trucks to meet the increased demand, following the recession.

New location

Razor Rents, located at 3160 Canton Road in Carrollton, opened on May 1. They see the oil and gas industry as a growth area for the next several years and believe that there will be longer-term growth in the Carrollton and surrounding areas for a long time to come.

Leppo Rents also sees a general trend of both contractors and individuals choosing to rent rather than own equipment they don’t use on a daily basis, and believe this trend will continue into the future.

It is not just the drilling activity that caused Leppo Rents to start a new location. They also see a long-term need for infrastructure development in the Utica shale area. They see a need for places for people to live, eat, shop and play in addition to the pipelines and plant maintenance that the Utica shale will likely produce.

Future goals

The family’s primary goal for 2013 is getting Razor Rents up and running smoothly.

The third generation of the Leppo family (Glenn and Dale Leppo) have a goal of sustainability. By that we mean that the company should outlive anyone working here today. We have been developing our internal systems, our training and our co-workers to make this a reality.

It isn’t easy, but we think it is a goal worth pursuing.

The Canton facility is located at 1534 Shepler Church Ave., SW. They can be reached by phone at 330-456-6800, or by email at cantonrental@leppos.com. They’re also available online at http://www.leppos.com.

Leppo Rents is open Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday from 7:30-noon.
